Our Story
In 1989, Angelique and Michael Boileau left Melbourne for Adelaide to start a Xerox dealership — in the middle of a recession, with interest rates at 19 per cent. Friends told them Adelaide was the worst place in the country to start a business. Angelique's answer: “People are people, and we are a people's people. It depends on you yourself — not the place.”
On their accountant's advice, they sold everything they owned to fund the business. “A house will never earn you an income,” he told them. “The business will. If you're successful, it can buy your house back for you.” They moved into a rented property, brought Angelique's elderly parents with them, and built Boileau Business Technologies from nothing.
Over 36 years, the company grew with the times — from photocopiers to multifunction devices, then into managed IT services with its own data-centre infrastructure. But the numbers Angelique is proudest of aren't revenue figures. Half of Boileau's customers stayed with the company for more than 20 years. And of the 28 community organisations the business sponsored over the years, every single one became a long-term client — and a lifelong friend.
It's got to be a win-win. If it's my personal giving, I don't expect a return. But those sponsorships built something better than returns — they built trust, and one big happy friendship.
— Angelique Boileau, Founder
Two years ago, the compulsory acquisition of the company's building brought the business chapter to a close sooner than planned. For Angelique, it became the push to finally begin something she had dreamed about for years: a family foundation dedicated to the South Australian community that had given her family so much.
Today, the Boileau Family Foundation supports the Hutt Street Centre, St Vincent de Paul, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Australian Dance Theatre and Zoos SA — not just with funding, but with time, involvement and connection.
